Meet the mischievous mini robot
Do you want a fun robot to control that fits in your pocket? Would you like to attract children to computer science? Do you enjoy new technologies and want to try programming? Start with Ozobot Bit+, it can easily handle everything at once and even more. It is a smart toy and a well-thought-out teaching aid at the same time, suitable for hobby and school education across subjects and grades. The little bot is packed with features, it will win you over with its cuteness and surprising skills. You can create a program for this robot model exclusively in the Arduino IDE software. Does it sound complicated? You don't have to be afraid of it at all. Thanks to the prepared sample programs, you can help children of the youngest age develop their creativity, critical thinking, team work, coding and problem-solving skills.
Unique way of programming using Arduino IDE software
Arduino is an open electronic platform based on a simple computer board (hardware) and a development environment that is used to create software. This development environment – Arduino IDE – is relevant for programming Ozobot. You can download the software for free on any device with the Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems. In it, you install a package of ready-made sample programs that were designed specifically for the Bit+ robot according to the instructions. Connect your device and Ozobot using a USB cable, upload the selected program to it and let the robot execute it. Are you ready for the next challenge? Start creating your own fun programs! You will use the Arduino programming language (based on the Wiring language) to do this. It is, admittedly, a little more complicated than Python, but it is still one of the most enjoyable. Knowing it can open up a lot of fascinating horizons and possibilities for students in the future!
The older Bit+ school kit is also compatible with Arduino, but only by installing the Arduino IDE packages to rewrite the Bit+ firmware. However, this new kit does not require rewriting the firmware and is compatible with Arduino out of the box. It also includes a booklet specifically designed for working with this software.
Everything you need for group programming
In the starter kit, you will find a booklet next to the Bit+ robot that will help you to easily penetrate the secrets of programming. There is also a set of 5 washable markers. This minimum equipment, which you cannot do without at the beginning, is delivered neatly together in a spacious zippered case.
STEAM teaching aid for modern schools
Both Ozobot and Arduino are among the global stars of STEAM education in polytechnic disciplines. This concept focuses on four disciplines – Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Arts. However, do not look for a classic way of education. On the contrary, it aims to solve real-world challenges, emphasizes critical and creative thinking, and does not neglect the ability to master language, formulate ideas and present them convincingly. Playful Ozobot and the user-friendly Arduino are ideal for this type of teaching. The number of topics that you can cover from individual fields with the robot and this open electronic platform is extremely wide. And the professional public is also noticing this! Ozobot has been collecting prestigious awards in the field of education and technology for many years. Arduino is definitely not far behind! At the world's leading educational technology exhibition BETT 2024 in London, it was among the finalist projects in 3 categories, two of which it eventually won!
Tutorial portal and community support
Are you not sure whether you can come up with interesting and sophisticated tasks for children to complete with the Bit+ robot? Don't worry! There is an online library of lessons for educational institutions (in English) at your disposal. The lessons are marked according to difficulty and focus , and most importantly, more are added regularly! You can also find interesting tips on the manufacturer's website . Another source of inspiration will be a fantastic community of educators who teach a wide range of subjects and share their own ideas and plans. The Ozobotí community is very active and constantly developing. That's why we can only recommend watching the webinars for teachers. Arduino also has its own very strong fan base. Its members advise each other, help each other, and share their ideas and projects. They are active on the forum , which you can find directly on the Arduino website, or on Discord . You can also join organized user groups . You don't have to go far to find the nearest one - there is one of these right in the Czech Republic!
What's next? Expand the set with fun 3D prints, for example
Do you have a 3D printer? Then you can directly download, share and print your own accessories from the Ozobotí 3D CAD library! The library offers a number of free 3D printable designs to expand STEAM education with Bit+. You already have a number of models available and more will be added . For example, you can print a case or a helmet for your robot. Let it play sports, print skittles or a hockey stick with a puck for it and organize your own tournament with the kids. You can also use designs to print carts, various barrels and other loads, even an excavator bucket! With such equipment, you will turn your bot into the most handy helper in building your own town!
PSSST! We also know about other fantastic products that Ozobot is currently working on. And just a quick peek under the hood promises big things!
